QUESTION:

Can I use my Gmail account to send email from my instance of WatchGuard Dimension?

 

ANSWER:

To send email notifications, your instance of Dimension must have an SMTP server specified in the Email Settings. You can use an SMTP server from inside your network, use a third-party SMTP server, or use your Gmail account. If you use your Gmail account, you can send up to 500 emails per month.

Note: If you select another third-party email provider, make sure that your email provider will allow you to send large amounts of email from an automated application. Make sure to comply with any email-related laws in your nation and region.

Before You Begin

Before you configure Dimension to use your Gmail account to send email, you must make sure that your Gmail account will allow you to send emails from Dimension.

To configure the settings in your Gmail account to allow Dimension to use the account:

1. Open a web browser, go to mail.google.com, and log in to your Gmail account.
2. Select the Google Apps menu or your account menu and click My Account.
3. If you use 2-Step Verification for your account, select Sign-in & security, follow the steps to enable an App password as described in: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833 , and then return to the My Account page.If you do not use 2-Step Verification, proceed to Step 4.
4. Scroll to the Connected apps & sites section and change the Allow less secure apps setting to ON.

 

Configure Dimension to Use Your Gmail Account

After you have made any necessary changes to your Gmail account, you can configure Dimension to use your Gmail account to send email. 

To configure the Email Settings for Dimension, follow the instructions in the Configure Email Settings topic of Fireware Help and specify these settings for your Gmail account: 

    Email Server IP Address — smtp.gmail.com

    Port — 587

    Encryption — Required

    Send credentials to the email server — Select this check box

    User Name — Your complete Gmail email address

    For example, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

    Passphrase — The passphrase for your Gmail account

    If you use 2-Step Verification, this is your App passphrase
